Stress in microdoses is okay, as many of us have heard. However, most of us in modern society know there is far too much stress daily. There are plenty of healthy ways to deal with it. There is meditation, exercise, and spending time with friends. There are also plenty of unhealthy ways of coping with stress. Like excessive drinking, chemical addiction, and online addiction, to name a few.
Why don't positive thinking and affirmations work? Why do you always seem stuck doing the same bad habits repeatedly, even though you know better? You've read the articles and the self-help books. You may even have tried over and over again to do better, to be better, but failed.
The question then is how can you deal with stress better. How can you overcome the same negative thinking that's kept you stuck in a rut?
If you want to change your thinking, first change your emotional state! Anchor some positive emotion to a change you want to have happen. Maybe it's a simple thing like getting cut off in traffic. Find something that you can look at that will remind you of someone that you love. Someone that the meter sight of brings joy and happiness to your face. A smile so bright that nothing can dim your light. Now, change your thinking. Change how you see the situation. That person who cut you off may have kept you from something even worse. The Stoics believed in a love of fate. Amore Fati.
So, to change your thinking, change your emotions, and then you're thinking which will become anchored to that new experience.
